Brenda McConnell

Brenda McConnell joined the EHCC team as grant writer in 2022. She is the co-owner of independent bookstore, Kona Stories in Keauhou. She opened her bookstore in 2006 to fill the literary gap she saw in her community. Kona Stories continues to thrive as a community bookstore and is known for its lively book clubs and author events. Brenda while being an enthusiastic bookseller is responsible for marketing/advertising, organizing events, buyer for sidelines and is the financial officer of the business. She identifies as LGBTQA+. While being actively involved with the daily operations of the store She finds time to give back to her community. Brenda is passionate about art and music education and works to support teachers and students of the Hawaii Island community by volunteering with a non-profit organization who brings free music education into the public schools. In 2017 she began working with non-profit originations providing support by helping them with grant applications. Today she manages grants for several non-profits in Hawaii and serves on the Board of Directors for Big Island Yoga Center.
