Avalon Paradea
Avalon Paradea (they/ them) is a neurodivergent queer creative raised in Waikōloa, where they continue to reside with their family. They are an ʻāina-based artist, working with found and foraged earth elements to create kapa, plant dyes, and natural paints. This co-creation with land and sea is a conscious, intentional form of reverence. Avalon uses their art as a means of discussing social, environmental, and political topics within Hawaiʻi and beyond through kapa, watercolor illustrations, zines, anthotypes, poetry, and photography. Above all, they strive to use the ʻike they have been gifted and the skills they have acquired to help keiki through kūpuna strengthen their personal pilina with place.
