The Young at Art annual juried exhibition celebrates National Youth Art Month by recognizing the excellence, creativity and originality of K-12 students on Hawai’i Island in all public, charter, and private schools, as well as home-schooled students.

In the Moonlight, with pianist, Meng-Chieh Liu.
 
As a companion event to the George Nuku sculpture residency in Volcano, Meng-Chieh Liu explores music of Beethoven, Chopin, Debussy, Rachmaninov, and Szymanowski. Gustav Highstein joins him for Schumann’s Romances for oboe and piano. The moon moves the tides of the ocean with invisible forces. Music acts on the inner world of our imagination, emotions, and feelings.

Program Description: The Youth Arts Series (YAS) annual Summer Art Camp is back for its 6th session! Keiki will join our talented local artists for creative adventures. In this year's summer session, the YAS team of skilled instructors will guide young artists through the process of learning a variety of mediums. Our student artists will create their own works of art while learning basic technical skills behind each medium.

Community and Policing: Where were we, where are we, where will we go?

INTRODUCTION

The facilities that now house the East Hawai'i Cultural Center were originally built in 1932 to house the Hilo Police Department, District Courthouse, and jail. Court staff remained there until 1969 and the police until 1975.
