EHCC’s Member Elected Representative to the Board
Frequently Asked Questions: EHCC’s Member Elected Representative to the Board
In 2022, EHCC amended its bylaws to add a board position elected by the membership. The purpose of this position is to offer members a direct means of voicing their concerns and interests.
Who is eligible to run for this position?
To be eligible to run for the Member Elected Representative (MER) position, candidates must be 18 years old or older and have been a paid-up member of EHCC for at least three months prior to the election date. The 2025 election will be held on July 19, 2025.
What are the responsibilities of the Member Rep?
MERs have the same obligations as all board members to ensure that the EHCC mission, vision, and values are upheld, by engaging in strategic planning, establishing policies, and overseeing financial, human resource, and related operations. All board members are expected to attend meetings regularly, in person or by Zoom. (Board meetings are held the third Saturday of every month at 2pm and typically last 60 to 90 minutes.)
The specific role of the MER is to work with EHCC Board and membership to recommend and implement strategies that will enhance engagement with EHCC (such as member-only events and benefits) and expand the membership base. The MER is tasked with voicing member concerns to the Board, and may solicit member input through means as surveys, focus groups, or other methods.
What is the length of the MER term?
The Member Elected Representative (MER) serves for one year and is elected by the current membership at the start of each fiscal year (EHCC’s fiscal year is July-June). MERs may serve up to three consecutive terms.
Who can nominate and vote for the MER?
All current EHCC members, regardless of length of membership, are eligible to vote and nominate candidates. Persons eligible for the MER position may nominate themselves. All nominations need to be received by May 30th
How will candidates publicize their platform and reach out to potential voters?
Each nominated candidate should submit a brief (100-400 words) statement giving information on their background, prior engagement with EHCC, and why they want to serve in the MER role. The 2025 deadline to submit statements is June 27. These statements will be circulated in the EHCC newsletter circulated at the beginning of July.
How are votes cast?
The EHCC Board Secretary will receive all votes and maintain their confidentiality. Votes may be cast by email at any time, through a paper ballot available at and returned to the EHCC office, or during the AGM via a direct message to the EHCC Board Secretary in the Zoom chat box. The Board Secretary will tally votes after the AGM.
How will the results of the election be shared?
The new MER will be announced in the next EHCC monthly newsletter following the vote tally.
