32nd Annual Trash Art Show- CALL FOR ENTRY

Statement of Juror Ira Ono:
“Once again, artists are in the vanguard of public awareness. I believe they were among the first to experiment with recycling on a personal level. (Art supplies can be expensive!) With this in mind, I invite Big Island artists and outsider artiststo enter up to 3 pieces for this juried exhibit. I will select works best representing the concept of art from trash. Originality, creativity and craftsmanship count. Large, three dimensional pieces are encouraged”

EHCC to Honor Founder Frances Chang Sherrard

The East Hawaiʻi Cultural Center will honor the former President of the East Hawai’i Cultural Council, Frances Chang Sherrard, at a ceremony marking the opening of the exhibit Expression of the Female Deity on Friday, May 3, at 6:00 p.m. The exhibit is a retrospective of artist Mayumi Odaʻs work, including silk screen, wood block, intaglio, and calligraphic art that will be on display throughout the month of May at EHCC, located at 141 Kalākaua Street.
The public is invited to the ceremony marking Sherrardʻs vision to create a Hilo cultural nexus.

Hida Takayama Woodblock-Prints Triennale (International)

Since ancient times, surrounded by forests, Hida Takayama has developed a unique culture for woodblock printing. This style of printing has always been popular in the area and is specifically called “Hida Woodblock Printing.” While passing down traditional techniques, Hida artisans have been creating original pieces of art. In order to promote and let the world know about the culture of Hida Takayama, the Hida Takayama International Contemporary Woodblock- Prints Triennial invites both domestic and international artists to showcase their create new technical innovation and creativity.
