Next To Normal: A Musical Performance!
Friday, May 4, 2018 - 7:30pm to Saturday, May 19, 2018 - 9:30pm
To event remaining 11 days
"This year, Hilo Community Players plans a full season of theatre beginning with a Spring production of the musical “Next to Normal.” “Next to Normal” opened on Broadway in 2009 and won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Drama (becoming the 8th musical ever to receive the honor). It is a powerful rock musical that grapples with the subject of mental illness in a suburban family.
This musical speaks directly to the issues of delusions, depression, loneliness, and the use of drugs to get through the day. That probably sounds awfully heavy, but the songs are tender and funny as well as penetrating. A hugely talented cast will perform in the theatre space at East Hawaii Cultural Center which is intimate enough to hear every word and to feel close to the actors and the story.
Don’t miss this unflinching look at a family coping with the effects of mental illness. “Next to Normal” runs from Friday, May 4th through Saturday May 19th, 2018. Evening performances on Fridays and Saturdays are at 7:30pm and two Sunday matinees are at 2:30pm, May 6th and May 13th.
